What is OCR and why does PDF Transformer use OCR technology for PDF conversion?
OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. ABBYY PDF Transformer uses ABBYY’s OCR technologies for intelligent processing of PDF files to ensure high conversion quality. OCR is also required to process PDFs with text in non-standard encoding and to convert PDF images created by scanners or MFPs into Microsoft Office applications or searchable PDF files.

What’s the difference between ABBYY PDF Transformer and ABBYY FineReader?
ABBYY PDF Transformer is an easy-to-use program that helps working with PDF files and provides quick result – converted or created PDF file. It is a good choice for routine PDF conversion tasks. ABBYY FineReader is a professional OCR program for those users who work with scanners/MFPs. It also provides professional conversion of multiple PDF files into editable files. However FineReader is not designed to support PDF creation from the other applications.

Thus, the two products can be used together on a single PC or within a corporate network.
