Features

Support both Unicode and ANSI Applications

  • Input in Unicode mode for Unicode applications. Applications such as Microsoft Office 97/2000/XP Suite, Notepad, and several others are Unicode conformant. An application is Unicode conformant if it processes each character in double byte and it recognizes fonts that are structured by Unicode TrueType font definition. Many new versions of applications will be Unicode compatible.
  • Supports Chinese GB and Big5 code standards. Unicode input mode is not available for regular ANSI (Non-Unicode) applications because they have not been modified to accommodate Unicode. However, CPNT has provided backward compatibility so that almost all applications can be processed in GB and Big5 code modes.
  • Unicode and non-Unicode fonts. Fonts are provided in both Unicode and non-Unicode formats. The non-Unicode font facename begins with Chn. They are suitable for ANSI applications. The Unicode font facename begins with TSC such as simplified Chinese (TSC JSong), traditional Chinese (TSC UMing).  They are to be used in Unicode applications.

Automatic Selection of Internal Code

  • User no longer needs to select internal code for Chinese. User starts an input session by confirming his or her Language Preference. A button on the CPNT3.0 Control Center displays the status of Simplified and Traditional Chinese preference. CP automatically select the appropriate display and input code mode based on language preference's selection and the current application type. In most cases, user should leave both the "Display Chinese By", at default ("Auto Select") when Chinese mode is set). The user may also leave the "Input Code Using" feature at default ("Auto Select") for either languages.
  • Overriding system selected internal code. User can force the input code of a specific type differ from the auto choice offered. The system lists the type of internal codes that are logically available to the user based on the preference of using simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese.  Forcing Unicode is not advisable.
  • Support extended GB and Big5 Chinese code standards. These extended code standards (GBK and Big5 PLUS) may become popular in the future. As an option, user may set the support of these code standards in place of their original standards.

Display Simplified or Traditional Chinese at will

The system has made the Chinese display and printing independent of the internal code used. At any given time, user may force display from simplified to traditional and vice versa. The forced display function affects all current documents in a global fashion but their underlying code in the text is not changed. When "Auto Select" is checked in both "Display Chinese by" and "Input Code Using", user can input either simplified or traditional Chinese characters in Unicode applications.

Enhanced Single Cursor Word Processing

Single cursor word processing means cursor movements on any character work the same way as English characters. That is, the cursor will no longer walk into a character because of its double-byte and non-split nature. This is a great convenience to our users. Single cursor word processing may be enabled from either one of the following cases:

  • When a character is processed in Unicode mode. Under Unicode standard, all language character sets are defined in double byte so the processing of each Unicode character is by nature "Single Cursor".
  • When CPNT3.0 is capable of controlling the cursor in non-Unicode mode. For applications that are not Unicode compatible, each Chinese character normally would require double cursor movements. However, we have implemented a special coding scheme, which recognizes certain programming classes, and reduce the double cursor requirement to single cursor. Not all applications can enjoy single cursor processing because some of them employ special programming code that does not communicate with external programs such as the CPNT3.0.
  •

Software Compatibility

  • Supports all Windows NT functions and applications such as MS Office 97/2000/XP. Supports both Unicode and non-Unicode (ANSI) applications.
  • Chinese characters documents made by CPNT from various localized versions of MS Office 97/2000/XP are compatible to each other.
  • Supports HZ, MIME, and ISO2022 Internet standards.

CPNT 3.0 Fonts

If you use Windows NT 4.0, CPNT3.0 will install:

  • Total of 6 Chinese TrueType fonts are included.
  • Total of 6 Chinese Unicode fonts are included.

If you use Windows 2000/XP, CPNT3.0 will install:

  • Total of 48 Chinese TrueType fonts are included.
  • Total of 48 Chinese Unicode fonts are included

Utility Programs

  • Super Code Converter: the only such utility available today! it converts text, RTF file or clipboard content from one internal code to the other. This converter also addresses specific requirements of MS Office 97/2000/XP documents and Unicode considerations.
  • Single Byte Converter: creates a new single-byte TrueType font based on the CJK character inputted. Mainly used for graphic manipulation and typesetting.
  • Meta Converter: export CPNT3.0 characters into the Clipboard or a file in Windows Graphics Standard Meta Format (WMF). Suitable for any graphic tasks.
  • Chinese Custom IME Generator: add third party Chinese input method to CPNT system.

Minimum System Requirement

  • PC compatible 586 and above with 32MB RAM.
  • Windows NT4.0/2000/XP
  • 50 MB of free hard disk space.
  • CD-ROM drive.
