Features
The Chinese Partner is a flexible,
easy-to-use Chinese enabling program that allows you to input, edit, format
and convert Chinese documents in many computer applications that are
principally intended for use in English or other non-Chinese Windows
95/98/ME.
With extensive 64 fonts and more than 10
input methods to choose from, it offers Unicode compatibility with Microsoft
Office 97/2000/XP for optimal Chinese computing. It's also fully compatible
with the Far East version of MS Office 97/2000/XP. Other features include a
smooth user interface and a powerful set of utilities.

Platforms
Chinese Partner 5.0 is a Chinese enabling system that is
fully compatible with Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me (Millennium). This
advanced version no longer supports MS Windows 3.1x.
Applications
The Chinese Partner supports Chinese input and display
in Microsoft Office 97/2000/XP Suite, Outlook Express 5.0 and Internet
Explorer as well as many other applications. It also supports Chinese
input and display in most of the search engines. Users of the program are
also able to input Chinese in graphics applications in either text or
graphic format.
User Interface
The main user interface of the Chinese Partner is the
Control Center. It is where the user controls all the important features
of the program. One of the features in the Control Center is the Input
Prompt Line, which is designed to input Chinese characters and related
symbols. It has a number of features that will let you input characters
with relative ease.
Input Methods
To input Chinese and other languages, there are a host of methods to
choose from. The input methods are: Super Pinyin, Super Zhuyin, Super
Shuangpin, Changjei, Easy Changjei, English-Chinese, Yueyin, Simple-Stroke,
Quwei Code, GB Code, BIG5 Code, Unicode, Telegraph Code, Russian, Japanese
Kana, Greek, Full Size-English, Half Size-English, and Short Sentence
Input Methods.
The Chinese Partner also provides you with a dynamic character/phrase
modification capability if Pinyin or Zhuyin is to be assigned to a new
character or phrase. Third party input methods such as Wubi (radical parts)
input method can be added to the system. It also allows the user to hook
up input methods of his own creation. Chinese Partner is also the
foundation software when user is interested in adding Chinese handwriting
recognition and/or Chinese speech recognition to his system.

To input the characters (shi
yong) using Pinyin on the hard keyboard:
Enter shi
(in lowercase only), and the characters available for selection
will appear on the Input Prompt Line as shown below. Since we are
inputting a two-character phrase, there is no need to make a selection
just yet.

to bring up a list of phrases for selection:
Select the phrase you want by
pressing the numeric key corresponding to the number in front of the
phrase of your choice (number 1 in this example). You can also use the
Spacebar to select a character/phrase that is in the number 1 position (as
in this case).
Using the same method, proceed to
type the characters (fang bian).
The Chinese phrase
is now displayed in the application.
Fonts
Chinese Partner offers 64 high quality traditional and simplified
Chinese fonts, in combination of bitmap, outline and TrueType to meet all
popular Chinese internal code standards. The number of characters for each
font ranges from 7,000 to 17,000 depending upon the type of internal code
used and other factors. It also offers two BPMF (Bo-Po-Mo-Fo) Zhuyin fonts.
The Unicode Chinese fonts in the Chinese Partner are great for
Internet use. In addition, the Chinese Partner’s unique Unified
Chinese font merges simplified and traditional Chinese font characters
into one set. It is the most friendly font to use in Microsoft Office
products.
Supports Unicode Mode
The Chinese Partner takes advantage of Unicode compliant applications
such as MS Office 97/2000/XP by displaying Chinese characters in single
cursor when a Chinese Partner font with the header “TSC” is selected. This
function enables users to edit any Chinese character with one move of the
cursor. There will be no more scrambled characters due to code
misinterpretation. Documents created in the Chinese version of MS Office
can be fully readable and ready for editing in the English version of MS
Office and vice versa. Users are still able to create backward compatible
ANSI documents in BIG5 or GB as they wish.
Internal Codes
Chinese Partner system implements the following internal code standards:
- GB Code 2312-80 standard for simplified Chinese includes 7,000+
Chinese characters and 840+ symbols (including Japanese Kana).
- GBK Chinese internal code standard is an extension of GB code
standard.
- BIG5 Code standard for traditional Chinese includes 13,000+ Chinese
characters and 879+ symbols (including Japanese Kana).
- BIG5 Plus Chinese internal code standard is an extension of BIG5
code standard.
- Unicode standard for Chinese, Japanese and Korean include 20,902
Standard Chinese characters, 302 compatible Chinese characters, 2,350
Hangul syllables and 1,342+ symbols (including Japanese Kana).
- ISO2022-CN Encoding – Internet standard.
- MIME Encoding - Quoted Printable and Base64.

Programs
Super Code Converter
This powerful utility can convert the code of files
from one to another among all codes such as GB, BIG5 and Unicode.
It handles several forms of Rich Text Format (RTF) as well as plain text
(ASCII) formats. It can also convert font type from symbol type to text
type, and vice versa, as well as insert or delete spaces between
characters.
Meta
Converter
This utility program is designed to facilitate the use of Chinese
characters in graphics applications, which do not allow double-byte
characters to be processed. One selects the characters that are to be
used, adjusts the settings as desired in the program and the program
converts them into a Windows Meta File format that is suitable for
graphics applications.
Single Byte Converter
When Chinese characters can not be used in a graphics application (such
as CorelDraw), the more powerful Single-Byte Converter can be used as an
alternative to the Meta Converter to create new single-byte fonts.
Basically, a new font thus created can be used on all Windows-based
computers -- even those without the Chinese Partner. Each single byte
font mimics the properties of an English font and can hold a maximum of
188 characters.
Font Editor
The Chinese Partner’s font editor allows users to construct and edit
any TwinBridge Outline fonts or system bitmap fonts within the Chinese
Partner system.
Character Map
The Character Mapping Table is used to browse or search for specific
characters among the different internal code standards. The characters
in the table may be pasted into the document using the clipboard as a
medium.
EuroInput
EuroInput, with font selection capabilities, can directly input more
than 20 European languages. Every language has a corresponding keyboard
layout for input with mouse as well as keyboard. Keyboard input rule is
designed according to Microsoft’s multi-lingual standards. This utility
provides four different font types for special characters and alphabets
displays. These fonts should be selected for corresponding languages
within applications.
Input Method Dictionary Manager
Input Method Manager performs character insertion and deletion
management functions. It allows you to have control of your dictionaries
over the following tasks: Assign an input code for a newly created
character; Add new phrases to dictionary; Change codes for existing
characters or phrases; Delete unused or incorrect words or phrases. When
combined with the self-learning features of TwinBridge, this program
will enable you to have a dictionary that is fully customized for your
needs. The input method dictionary is used by the system to locate the
characters matching a given input code.

Chinese Partner 5.0 fully enables Chinese language
support in Microsoft Windows 95/98/SE/Me. It also supports Microsoft

Users of Microsoft Outlook Express can now take full
advantage of the ease of the Chinese Partner in sending and receiving
their e-mail. It also supports Chinese input and display in most of the
search engines.
3. Supports more applications for Unicode Chinese input
CP5.0 is now able to support Unicode Chinese input in
applications that are not fully Unicode compliant such as Netscape 6.0,
Photoshop 6.0, FrontPage, and Publisher.
CP5.0 supports Unicode Chinese input and display in
fully Unicode compliant applications such as Microsoft Office 97/2000/XP
suite, Internet Explorer as well as other applications.
Using Unicode posting mode in CP5.0 coupled with
TwinBridge “TSC” series Unicode fonts, user may display and edit Chinese
characters in single cursor motion. There will be no more scrambled
characters due to code misinterpretation. Documents created by Chinese

4. Enhanced Super Code Converter
This new code converter allows conversion among GB, B5,
GBK, BIG5+ and Unicode standards in text (ASCII) format and in RTF (Rich
Text Format). In the RTF mode, certain document attributes such as font
information, bold, etc. are retained. Both old and new RTF formats used in
various Microsoft Office versions including Office 2000 and XP are
supported. This is an important utility that will enable users to convert
their old documents to use the Unicode posting mode.
5. Supports full mouse entry from soft keyboard
For added convenience, user may alternate between
keyboard and mouse Chinese input (via soft keyboard) at will. We have
re-organized the soft keyboard tables and improved the hot key switching
functions.
